A COLLABORATION BETWEEN DCP & chatterPDX

After 25+ years of producing concerto concerts for young artists, conductor Niel DePonte is creating a new opportunity for young artists in the Portland, SW Washington area. The Young Artists Professional Development Competition (YA-PDC) is a new program for talented students that will provide the winners with performance opportunities at one of two established performance stages: the Sunday morning series known as chatterPDX in downtown Portland, and The Concerts At The Barn summer music festival in late July and August in Beaverton.

FEATURING:

Rosebud String Quartet
Niel DePonte, Percussion

Susan Smith, Pianist

James Shields, Clarinetist

Another chatterPDX curated show brings us the Rosebud String Quartet from Alberta, Canada. Members of the Edmonton Symphony, Canadian Opera, and National Ballet Orchestras have formed an exciting quartet of young virtuosos. On our combo concert's first half, ACT 1, Rosebud will perform the melodic Haydn String Quartet in F minor, Op. 20 No. 5. After intermission, ACT 2 will feature Grammy nominated percussionist Niel DePonte and pianist Susan Smith performing with Rosebud on Portland's own Kenji Bunch's piece entitled TRACKINGS. This work, commissioned by Niel and premiered in 2023, outlines elements of the African-American diaspora and its influence on many different musical genres. In addition, Oregon Symphony principal clarinetist James Shields adds one more virtuoso to the mix making this a combo concert not to be forgotten!
