Hanami Froom_1024x1024.png

FEATURING:

Ben Kim, Pianist
Maria Garcia, Pianist

Michael Crusoe, Timpanist

Hanami Froom, Vioist

THE ULTIMATE COMBO CONCERT! The Bartok Sonata for two pianos and percussion/and violin prodigy Hanami Froom in recital.

Of all the concerts ever held at the barn, this concert is one of Niel’s favorite programs. The Bartok Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion is one of the most important works ever written for a chamber ensemble. This fascinating mix of Hungarian folk idioms and incredibly complex and challenging piano parts, accompanied by timpani and percussion is as amazing to see performed in person as it is to hear. Barn favorites, pianists Ben Kim from Berlin, and Maria Garcia from Portland, join Niel and the former timpanist of the Seattle Symphony Michael Crusoe to perform a work that is rarely performed in Portland.

Combine this with a rare solo appearance by violinist Hanami Froom, once a child prodigy who grew up in Portland and is now appearing with ensembles such as the Philadelphia orchestra and launching a solo and chamber music career. Hanami has recently appeared as a guest artist at the Aspen Music Festival and the Rome Chamber Music Festival has soloed with the Savannah Philharmonic among other appearances. Come hear her play works by Chausson, Bartok, Ysaye, and other great composers accompanied by Ben Kim on piano.

012026A_Program BG_1778x1000.jpg

In his 48 years in the performing arts, arts education, and non-profit management, Niel DePonte has seen, participated in, and led many of the most significant changes in the arts in Oregon. Formerly the principal percussionist for the Oregon Symphony and conductor for Oregon Ballet Theatre, DePonte Creativity Partners is Niel's new non-profit organization bringing you his latest visionary project, The Concerts at the Barn. Join him for this reverie of chamber music in a quintessential Oregon setting – the Sholls Valley Lodge in Hillsboro, Oregon.

New for 2026, Niel DePonte’s Concerts At The Barn Festival moves to an exciting new location, Scholls Valley Lodge on Scholls Ferry Road. The lodge provides upgraded picnic venues, lush lawns, shade trees, and a new barn with improved sight lines and room for many picnic tables inside where you can enjoy your food and the music at the same time! All shows are on TUESDAY evenings this year.

There is also a new seating system. The barn will be divided into three seating areas, the VIP section with picnic tables and chairs and an up-close view of the performers at $60 per person. The Gold Patron Section, also with tables and chairs but further back from the stage, and the Silver Patron Section with single chairs and slightly further back from the stage. All seats will be FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED this year. Come early, grab your seats and have a great picnic out on the extensive lawns, then come in for the show, or just set up at your table in the barn and settle in for your picnic and the show beginning at 7:00 PM.
